Service Description

Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine technique, may offer benefits for fertility by potentially increasing the chances of natural conception or supporting assisted reproductive treatments like IVF. It can enhance ovarian function, regulate hormones, improve blood flow to the reproductive organs, and reduce stress, all of which can positively impact fertility. Carried out in our therapy room, your acupuncture session will last 45 minutes, and involves an assessment of your general health, medical history and a physical examination, followed by insertion of the acupuncture needles. This stimulates sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles, resulting in the body producing natural substances, such as pain-relieving endorphins. It's likely that these naturally released substances are responsible for the beneficial effects experienced with acupuncture. The needles used are very fine, single-use, pre-sterilised needles that are disposed of immediately after use. Once in place, they will be left in position for a length of time lasting from a few minutes up to around 30 minutes. You may feel a tingling or a dull ache when the needles are inserted but you should not experience any significant pain. A course of acupuncture is usually recommended because it can take a few sessions for you to see improvements. Acupuncture may help with fertility by supporting: • Hormone Regulation, acupuncture can balance hormone levels, including those related to ovulation and menstruation, which is beneficial for women with conditions like PCOS. • Improved Blood Flow, by increasing blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, acupuncture may improve the environment for egg development and embryo implantation. • Reduced Stress, fertility treatments can be stressful, and acupuncture can help manage stress levels, positively impacting fertility outcomes. • Supporting IVF, acupuncture is commonly used alongside IVF to improve implantation rates and overall pregnancy success. During the session, you'll usually be asked to sit or lie down. You may also be asked to remove some clothes so the practitioner can access certain parts of your body.
