Laura Smith Midwife & Acupuncture Practitioner

Laura Smith

Midwife Acupuncture Practitioner

I have been an NHS midwife for 15 years and I continue to work on delivery suite and the antenatal and postnatal ward. It is my vocation to support families during a profound transition and to empower women in every element of their experience. For almost a decade, I have been fascinated by the great benefits acupuncture can offer pre-conception, during pregnancy and in the postnatal period. I have undertaken training with the British Medical Acupuncture Society and I’m thrilled to be able to provide treatments for issues such as muscle pain, headache, nausea and anxiety. Acupuncture is also used for pre-birth preparation, pain relief in labour and optimising baby’s position. It is an evidence-based treatment that allows me to offer truly holistic care.

Melanie Sanders

Retired Midwife and Craniosacral Therapist

With 40 years in the caring profession, I began as a nurse and spent over 20 years as a midwife. My interest in complementary therapies led me to train as a Reiki therapist and later earn a diploma in Craniosacral Therapy (CST) in 2019. CST is a gentle, hands-on therapy that addresses discomfort in both babies and adults by assessing the craniosacral system, which include the brain and spinal cord. It's safe, non-invasive, and can help with issues like colic, reflux, and developmental delays, providing a moment of calm and restoration for clients of all ages.

Lisa Jury

Midwife and Infant Massage Instructor

I have been a midwife for over 30 years, and currently I work as a community midwife.

I live in Mid Sussex with my son and twin daughters, and I enjoy baking cakes and walking in my spare time.

I have a passion for empowering women and wanted to be able to give them something extra during their journey into parenthood. To enable me to do that I trained and qualified as a certified infant massage instructor in 2023.

Jane Cleary

Midwife Birth Trauma Therapist & Birth Planning Consultant

I am a midwife with 35 years of dedicated service in the NHS, including as the first Consultant Midwife at University Hospital Sussex NHS Trust. My career has spanned hospital and community settings, senior roles on the labour ward, supervising midwives, and facilitating professional development. Early on, I established a Birth Stories service, where listening to women shaped my focus on ensuring families feel safe within the maternity system. This experience led me to specialize in birth trauma therapy, addressing its profound impact on daily life, relationships, and parenting. I continue working in the NHS, offering tailored advice and planning for pregnancies, guiding choices alongside current maternity practices.
