Louise & I are qualified midwives and massage therapists trained in the safe use of essential oils in pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.  Aromatherapy can bring many benefits, but some oils are not safe to use in pregnancy and should therefore always be recommended by a trained practitioner.

Pregnancy is a time of enormous physical and emotional change and can therefore bring its own set of pains and tensions throughout the body.  Common issues in pregnancy include;

  • Pelvic and hip pain from the growing baby changing the mother’s centre of gravity and the hormone Relaxin.

  • Fluid retention in arms and legs

  • Cramps

  • Heartburn

  • Disturbed sleep

  • Shoulder pain

This is a time to be nurtured and supported, and massage is a wonderful way to ease these discomforts as well as relaxing mum and baby.  Evidence supports the use of massage to;

  • Help reduce anxiety

  • Decrease leg and back pain

  • Improve sleep

  • Decrease stress hormones

  • Improve circulation and help reduce swelling
