About Me - Sarah Syms, Midwife, Massage Therapist & Baby Massage Instructor

My name is Sarah Syms and I run Sootheababy Massage Classes and Sootheamuma Massage Therapies. I'm a registered practising midwife, massage therapist and infant massage instructor with over 30 years experience of working with families.

Baby massage was one of the first activities I did with my son and for many years it provided a calming haven for both of us to return to when times were busy or fraught. Through my work as a nursery nurse and later as a midwife I have become increasingly passionate about empowering families so that they can gain the maximum enjoyment from family life. I enjoy teaching antenatal classes with my midwife colleagues in the ABumpsABaby team (see below) and training to become a certified baby massage instructor was a natural extension to this work. In 2017, I qualified with my Diploma in Massage Therapy, with Anatomy and Physiology, which has enabled me to provide tailored aromatherapy massage treatments for mums and mums to be.

I am Fedant registered and insured, and I am enhanced DBS checked.

Louise Davey, Midwife & Massage Therapist

My name is Louise Davey. I am a registered Midwife and have been working as a Community Midwife in West Sussex for over 10 years. I am also an Antenatal Educator and have the privilege of teaching antenatal classes alongside my midwifery colleagues on the ABumpsABaby team. Throughout my Midwifery career I have always been a strong advocate for treating a person holistically and in the healing power of touch. The benefits of Massage are both well documented and evidence based. Massage has been proven to be effective in reducing discomfort and anxiety, promoting restful sleep, reducing swelling and stimulating circulation. Therefore, training as a Massage Therapist seemed a natural fit for me and in 2018, I trained as a CIBTAC qualified Massage Therapist. I am both Fedant registered and insured and I am also enhanced DBS checked. I am proud to work alongside my friend and colleague Sarah Syms, and we are now able to offer an enhanced massage treatment service to pregnant and postnatal clients. Whilst Sarah offers treatments in the relaxing surroundings of her therapy room, I am fully mobile and will be able to offer you treatments in the comfort of your own home at a mutually convenient time.

Why choose baby massage?

Infant massage is a way to express loving, caring, respect to your baby through touch. It can help:

  • Promote secure parent-infant attachments
  • Ease issues such as colic, wind and constipation
  • Relax both parent and baby
  • Develop body coordination and communication skills
  • Improve sleep quality
  • Provide an opportunity for parent and baby socialisation

Massage makes a lovely gift too...

Give the gift of a baby massage course or pregnancy/postnatal massage to friends and family.  Great as a baby shower or new born baby gift with a difference.  See our course information page for gift voucher options.

'Just had the most amazing pregnancy massage! When I walked in I was stiff and achey and by the time Sarah had worked her magic I didn't even struggle to bend down and put my shoes back on. I feel so much better; relaxed and energised at the same time. Definately a must.

Rebecca 35 weeks pregnant.

'I had the most amazing pregnancy massage from Sarah before my daughterwas born.  Sarah is very professional and passionate about what she does. It's an added bonus that she is a midwife to, so any worries and concerns she can put your mind at ease.  I was already booked in another one before due date but Imogen had other ideas and came a week early. We can not wait to do the baby massage course. Fully recommend having this massage before birth'
